The Mitre

Located on a tight 3-way junction in the centre of Burnley, HS RoofClad’s specialist team worked on the construction of a flagship wellbeing centre – The Mitre Project.

HS RoofClad

The Brief

This state of the art project followed the client’s existing facility which opened in 2004 and has helped to support thousands of vulnerable individuals and families to get back on their feet.

This new development will provide the scheme with more modern facilities and improved accommodation, to both support and train homeless and vulnerable people. In total, there are 30 self-contained rooms with space for training and community projects.

The Solution

HS RoofClad were delighted to be involved in such a high profile project by providing a full wall cladding package which included:

  • Architectural protruding window pods falling in line with the shadows of the AWP system
  • Rodeca polycarbonate panelling system to stair cores

In addition to this, a full roofing package was provided and included:

  • Kingspan Topdek Membrane systems to four roof areas
  • Sika Sarnafil fleece back with a flagged system to the fifth roof area

The ground of the site is steeply sloping, to create a split-level building with opportunities to capitalise on natural daylight and excellent views of the surrounding landscape.

The Outcome

The packages installed by HS RoofClad were logistically challenging to undertake, due to four adverse situations that required addressing suitably:

  • The steep slope of the site
  • The size of vertically laid panels
  • The proximity to three ‘live’ roads and busy junctions
  • The window pods needed to align to AWP shadow lines, leaving minimal tolerance

Taking all of this into consideration, HS RoofClad ensured that there was minimal disruption to ‘live’ roads, which remained open and undisturbed whilst vertical panels were vacuum lifted above the roof areas and into place, assisted by a mechanical work platform.
